The project: The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the performing arts is a 104,000 square foot facility with state-of-the-art acoustic design and a program of world-class performing artists. The facilities include two performance venues supported by a full complement of performance, production support space, and reception areas.

When the University of California, Davis began to build the Mondavi Center for performing arts they turned to UCF for furniture solutions. Having worked with UCD, a long term customer, the UCF team had a solid understanding of the campus, and a great respect for the achievement of their new landmark project.

The goal: to provide furnishings that would enhance the new state-of-the-art performing arts center, meet their programming requirements, be completed rapidly, and within budget. UCF worked closely with UCD Project Manager Kelly Denny to coordinate the furniture for the performance theater, production support spaces, reception areas, ticket booth, break areas, private offices and open offices.
The solution: includes using entirely freestanding workstations in the private offices, open offices and ticket booth areas, allowing natural light to reach the middle of the office areas and reducing overall furniture costs. Freestanding furniture not only decreased the initial installation time but, will simplify future furniture changes. For the theater, lobby and break room areas UCF creatively found ways to satisfy the furniture needs while maintaining the budget and performance requirements of the ancillary furniture. The UCF team provided furniture specification services, project management, installation management and coordination to ensure a project that was completed for the Mondavi Center grand opening in October 2002.
